Thankyou to the LCSC, DHL Diegem (Belgium)

Thank you to all those at DHL who donated to the Dairo Project as part of the LCSC's yearly social event in Diegem, Belgium on Saturday, 21st June. The money raised will go towards purchasing school supplies which we will send over via DHL for the beginning of the school year in September 2008.

Here are a couple of photos from the day.

Equal opportunities for all children in our global community

The fundamental objective of this project is to support the education of children, specifically at the Public Primary School in Dairo, Côte d’Ivoire (L’Ecole Primaire Publique de Dairo).

In Côte d’Ivoire there is often a lack of essential materials in schools, particularly outside of larger cities like Abidjan. These are things which are used everyday, like pens, pencils, calculators, writing pads, books for the library and so on. Most of these items are quite inexpensive here and taken for granted, but in Côte d’Ivoire they can be unaffordable for many parents.

In co-operation with DHL Aviation (Brussels), we will organise a fundraiser evening to purchase the material that the school needs and send it via DHL to Dairo. This project is not about throwing money at a problem; the idea is that everyone involved can learn more about another community and culture, as there will be direct contact between the donors and those receiving the donation. That is why we have set up this Blog where photos will be regularly posted, as well as updates about what is going on in Dairo & Diegem.

We believe that education is a child's key to a better future and through this project our aim is to create a more level 'playing field' so that the children in Dairo may have the same or similar opportunities as a child going to school in Belgium, for example.
